Onboard The Scarlet Lady, passengers can find a full bar where you can find some of the best Pina Coladas on the island and enjoy them while watching wild dolphins in their natural habitat. Built for comfort and excitement, the Scarlet Lady™ is the finest Dolphin Watch boat on the Texas Gulf Coast. So, pack your bags, cameras, and binoculars, and don’t forget the dolphin whistles. Prepare for an adventure like no other as you discover the best dolphin-watching spots in Port Aransas.

Fisherman’s Wharf

It’s important to note that while there is no guarantee that you will see dolphins on your tour or cruise, the chances of spotting them are higher during the peak season. Additionally, early morning tours or cruises tend to have better dolphin sightings because the water is calmer and there are fewer boats on the water. In Port Aransas, visitors can still enjoy watching dolphins from a distance through guided tours and cruises. The tour will cruise the waters in search of wild dolphins, sea birds, and natural landmarks that make Port Aransas such a special place. The most common species of dolphins that can be found in Port Aransas, Texas are bottlenose dolphins. These dolphins are known for their intelligence, playful behavior, and distinctive curved dorsal fin.

Sunset Cruise

The lowest impact way to see these birds is from the water looking onto the Refuge, and there is no better way to see them than in the comfort of the Wharf Cat and Scat Cat. Remember that dolphins are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, and it is illegal to harass or harm them in any way. By taking these steps, you can help ensure the safety and well-being of the dolphins in Port Aransas. Additionally, it’s important to note that some tours may have additional fees or charges for things like equipment rentals or gratuities, so be sure to ask about any additional costs when booking your tour. The Scarlet Lady, a cutting-edge catamaran-style vessel, provides a comfortable experience as it glides through the scenic waters of the Lydia Ann Channel. The tours promise thrilling dolphin sightings and stunning views of sea birds and the iconic Lydia Ann Lighthouse. However, the best way to increase your chances of seeing dolphins up close is to take a dolphin-watching tour or charter a boat. Dolphin-watching tours typically offer a better chance to spot dolphins and may provide a more immersive and educational experience.

Trip

Bottlenose dolphins are gray in color and can grow up to 12 feet in length, making them one of the largest species of dolphins in the world. They are often seen swimming in groups or pods and can be found year-round in the waters around Port Aransas. Other species of dolphins that may occasionally be seen in the area include Atlantic spotted dolphins and common dolphins, although these sightings are less common. From sunset cruises and dolphin watches to private guided fishing tours, there is a perfect experience waiting for you and your group.

Port Aransas holds a special place in our hearts, and not just because of its stunning beaches and charming coastal town vibe. At least once or twice a year, my family leaves behind the hustle and bustle of daily life in Fort Worth, Texas, and we head South for a family vacation on the beach shores of Port Aransas. Afterward, you’re only 1-2 minutes from exploring downtown, restaurants and finding more Port A interactive adventures.

Dolphin Watch is a reliable backup if The Scarlet Lady is fully booked during your desired time slot. We appreciate this local establishment because their tours don’t “just” focus on dolphins. You’ll also learn about Mustang Island’s history, cruise past Lydia Ann Lighthouse, and experience a live shrimp trawl, which typically nets anything from crabs to stingrays and, you guessed it, shrimp. Unfortunately, Dolphin Watch cannot match The Scarlet Lady’s online booking system.

Once you get back from your trip, sit and relax on the back patio while the crew unloads the boat and racks your fish for some great photo opportunities! After that, they suggest taking advantage of their full fish cleaning service where your fish will be filleted, packaged, and ready to take home. Thanks to a generous federal grant, this iconic landmark in Port Aransas has been reconstructed, attracting passionate anglers and becoming a hotspot for locals and tourists to witness incredible dolphin activity.

Being a catamaran style vessel, the Scarlet Lady™ can cruise comfortably through the waters of the Lydia Ann Channel without any worry of its passengers feeling motion sickness. This past weekend the Marketing and Strategy team spent their afternoon with our friends from The Scarlet Lady, the area’s most fun dolphin adventure company. Our wonderful guide, Whitney, and Captain Don channeled through the beautiful waters of Port Aransas to get an up-close view of the beautiful dolphins. It’s a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, offering breathtaking views of wild dolphins breaching the Aransas Pass channel as massive tankers and ships pass through.

While it is possible to see porpoises in Port Aransas, they are less commonly spotted than dolphins. Porpoises and dolphins belong to the same family of marine mammals, but porpoises are typically smaller and have different physical characteristics than dolphins. In Port Aransas, the most common species of marine mammals are bottlenose dolphins, which are often seen swimming in the waters around the area. While it is always possible to spot a porpoise during a dolphin watching tour or cruise, sightings are generally less common than sightings of dolphins.

Port Aransas, TX offers some of the most beautiful wildlife in the country! Admittedly, Captain Kirk (not James Tiberius, to our knowledge) doesn’t wield a prototypical dolphin tour in Port Aransas. The $50, two-hour “booze cruise” is a BYOB dolphin-viewing experience that’s geared toward bachelorette (and bachelor) parties, work retreats, large family gatherings, and just about any other type of celebration. This is to protect the dolphins and avoid causing them stress or disturbance, as well as ensure the safety of humans. It is important to note that it is illegal under the Marine Mammal Protection Act to harass or harm dolphins in any way. Additionally, if dolphins approach your boat or vessel, it is important to maintain a steady course and speed and avoid sudden movements or loud noises that could startle or harm the animals.

However, it is estimated that there are hundreds to thousands of dolphins living in the Gulf of Mexico, which includes the waters around Port Aransas. The area is home to several species of dolphins, including bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic spotted dolphins, and rough-toothed dolphins. These dolphins can be seen throughout the year, with the highest numbers typically spotted during the summer months. These iconic landmarks offer unobstructed views of the vast Gulf of Mexico. While my family and I haven’t personally witnessed dolphin sightings at these spots, there have been reports of dolphins gracefully breaching the ocean waves far from the shoreline during sunrise and sunset. You’ll find restrooms and limited parking facilities at the Station Street Pier.

In addition, dolphin spot and watch as you stroll up and down the jetty and walk out onto the fishing piers over the water. For those captivated by the beauty of a sunset over the water, the Sunset Dolphin Adventure Tour is a must. Witness wild dolphins playing against the backdrop of the setting sun, creating a photographer’s dream. Capture the iconic Lydia Ann Lighthouse bathed in the warm glow of twilight for a photo that will become a cherished memento.

Port Aransas is a destination that caters to all ages, offering an exceptional dolphin-watching experience. This beloved coastal town boasts a variety of fantastic locations where you can witness the awe-inspiring sight of dolphins in their natural habitat. Nature’s Preserve at Charlie’s Pasture offers many other activities to enjoy, including scenic trails and fishing. Dolphins in Port Aransas often keep their distance from passing vessels, ships, and boats. However, dolphins in Port Aransas have been known to venture close enough to humans standing near or on the jetty pass to pet them (although petting a dolphin is not recommended).

Learn about the history of Port Aransas and lots of fun facts about our friends in the water. The Dolphin Adventure Tour, a favored excursion, sets sail twice a day, guiding visitors on a captivating journey to spot wild dolphins, sea birds, and other natural landmarks that make Port Aransas distinctive. Lasting an hour and a half, this tour strikes the perfect balance, ensuring sufficient time for dolphin sightings while allowing room for exploring other exciting activities in Port Aransas. However, dolphins can still be seen in the cooler months, especially on sunny days.
